Obituary

James Anthony Demmer, 74, passed away on February 8, 2018 at his home, in Austin, Texas. Known as JD to his friends, he was born in 1943 in Nixon, Texas to Herman (Sr.) and Elizabeth (Ploch) Demmer. James grew up in Gillett, Texas. He graduated from high school in Karnes City, Texas in 1961. After high school he attended trade school in San Antonio, Texas where he received a Draftsman certificate. He began work for the Texas Department of Transportation (Highway Department) as a draftsman, where he worked for more than 30 years. James married Melva McClaugherty in 1964 in Pleasanton, Texas. They were married for 19 years and blessed with 4 children.

James was an active member of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, in Austin, Texas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the family farm in Nixon and staying abreast of politics. James made many friends over the years living in South Austin and would gladly share his many stories and anecdotes with anyone who was interested to listen.

James was preceded in death by his father, Herman Demmer Sr., and his second wife, Lawanda June Hawkins Demmer. James will be sadly missed by his mother Elizabeth Demmer; his four loving children, Mark Demmer, Deloris White, Rebecca Demmer, and Christopher Demmer; his siblings Herman Demmer Jr., Patricia Gustafson, and Catherine Walsh; and five grandchildren Emily Demmer, Luke White, Emma White, Eli Demmer, and Magnolia Demmer.

Visitation for James will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., including a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, TX.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf St, Austin, TX.

Internment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Nixon, Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Austin, Texas, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Nixon, Texas, or to a charity of your choice.
