Tribute & Message From The Family

Obenhaus, Hazel Williams was born December 4, 1920 in Marshall, Texas. She went to her heavenly home Friday, February 9, 2018. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents Thelma Oden Williams Triplett and Hugh Williams; step-father JackTriplett; husband Richard "Bobby" Obenhaus, and son Joe Kelly Obenhaus.

What a great life Hazel enjoyed with family and friends! Hazel's 97 years were exemplified by her devotion and dedication to family; a keen sense of humor; the desire to serve others and to be useful; and an "East Texas charm".

Bobby waltzed into Hazel's life in 1942 at a University of Texas dance and they never missed a step from that moment on. They soon married and moved to New York City while Bobby was waiting to leave for service in the Navy. They danced the nights away at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. That graceful waltz soon changed to the quick step as they found themselves moving to Austin, Texas and raising three young children.

Hazel's gracious, good-natured spirit glided her gracefully through whatever life sent her way. She was always grateful and supportive of her husband and children. Hazel was beloved by everyone who knew her and an inspiration to her family. She is survived by a daughter Vaughn Gross and son-in-law William D. "Tex"; son Dick Obenhaus and daughter-in-law Patti; grandchildren Jason Obenhaus and wife Lindsey; Casey Obenhaus Horn and husband Tipton; and three great-grandchildren Joseph and Jonathan Obenhaus, and Annabel Horn.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Westlake Hills "The Summit" Austin, and Parsons House Preston Hollow, Dallas who adored and lovingly cared for Hazel.

A celebration of life will be held in the sanctuary at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 606 W. 15th Street, Austin, 78701, Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 1:00pm.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Austin Pets Alive, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, Texas, 78703, or a charity of your choice.
