Tribute & Message From The Family

Sidney Harry Goldfin, 89, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017. Sid was born November 30, 1927 in Richmond, VA to Rebecca and Samuel Goldfin. He spent his childhood in Richmond. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy and traveled the world on the USS cone for three years.

After his time in the military, he married Jo Anna Omansky and had two daughters, Maurica and Joy. Some years later, in 1964, he met and married his second wife Phyllis Miller and one year later Elliot was born. In 1978, they moved to Katy, TX where he opened several jewelry stores. In 1986, Sid and Phyllis moved to Austin where they spent the rest of their lives.

Sid was instrumental in pushing for laws for children with disabilities. He pushed for children to be mainstreamed in public schools and pressed for laws to allow hearing and voice impaired adults to hold any job that their abilities allow.

He worked at Foley's/Macy's in the Fine Jewelry/Men's departments from 1995-2010.

Sid loved to be around people and had a great sense of humor. He was a foodie and liked to try new and different places to dine out. He loved to read the newspaper and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He loved movies, music, and Barbara Streisand.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; and daughter, Maurica Rae.

Sid is survived by his daughter, Joy Goldfin; son, Elliot Goldfin; and granddaughters, Tali and Adina Goldfin-Wald.

We would like to thank the Parsons House where Sid lived for three years before moving to nursing care at RNC where he spent his last nine months. A special thanks to Austin Hospice for their 24-hour care during his last days.

The family wishes to thank Rabbi Folberg and those who had Sid in their thoughts and prayers.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10:30 am at Beth Israel 3 at Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N. IH 35 in Pflugerville, TX.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Veterans Outpatient Center Of Austin, Alzheimer's Foundation of America, or American Speech-Language Hearing Fund.
